Happy 90th birthday to Montblanc's Meisterstück

Costing AED 145,000, owning a rose-gold nib Meisterstück will put you in an elite club of writing instrument enthusiasts.

90th birthdays are always special occasions, but when you're the world's eminent brand of writing instruments and it's your favourite child's birthday, you're going to do something that extra special.

That's the reason behind Montblanc creating rose-gold nib fountain pens within its Meisterstück collection for the first time.

As the luxury brand's original writing instrument turns 90 this year, the German company is releasing a limited-edition run of the pens, and yes you guessed it, only 90 will be made.

Each pen comes wrapped in a replica of the original 1924 yellow-gold sleeve - except this time it's in rose gold - features a cap ring with 90 diamonds and has the number '90' etched onto its nib. A rollerball version will also be made.

Costing 29,000 euros apiece - AED 145,000 - owning this pen will put you in an elite club of writing instrument enthusiasts, including the brand's ambassador Hugh Jackman.

But in all honesty, Montblanc has followers in some of the world's biggest names who they don't have to pay to use their pens, including Barack Obama, the Dalai Lama and Pope Benedict.

When you think of the important documents those men must sign, if the Meisterstück is good enough for them, it's good enough for us all.
