For the first time in the 52-year history of the Porsche 911, the Carrera and Carrera S will both be equipped with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine.

The all-new, three-litre, twin-turbocharged, flat-six delivers 365bhp and 414bhp in the Carrera and Carrera S respectively – that’s a 20 horsepower increase over both the previous models.

The extra power is put down with ease thanks to a significant increase in torque (60Nm in each model), with the Carrera packing 450Nm and the S boasting 500Nm, both available from as low as 1,700rpm, right up to 5,000rpm.

All this combines to produce the fastest ever 911 Carreras: the coupe with PDK and Sport Chrono Package can do 0-100kmh in 4.2 seconds, while the Carrera S in the same configuration manages the sprint in just 3.9 seconds, making it the first 911 Carrera to break the four-second mark.

Top speeds have increased too, with the Carrera reaching a maximum 295kmh and the S topping out at an impressive 308kmh.

As well as the boosted performance, the new 911 Carreras will also be more fuel efficient (saving up to a litre of fuel every 100km), be equipped with Porsche’s new Communication Management system including satnav, and have all the usual options for clever driver aids such as Adaptive Cruise Control.

Available to preorder now, the new models will be on sale in the UAE from April 2016. The standard Carrera will retail at AED352,000, with the Cabriolet variant costing AED389,200. The base S will cost AED414,100, and the Cabriolet will set you back AED454,900.
