TRON: Legacy motorcycle goes on sale in Dubai

Even if you're not a fan of the cult film, you'll still be tempted to part with AED 165,000 for this unique bike.

When a working replica of modern-day Batman’s drive the Tumbler sold on for AED 3.5 million last year, we thought Dubai’s market for niche fantasy motors had peaked. We were wrong.

A fully functioning replica of the futuristic electric motorcycle from cult sci-fi movie TRON: Legacy has been listed on the UAE classifieds site for AED 165,000. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't come with a warranty.

Not just a pretty paperweight for your driveway, this custom-made bike is the real deal. Although as it’s only been ridden once by its current owner we’d question how enjoyable the ride is. Even still, for movie lovers or collectors of unique motors, this isn’t a chance that comes around everyday.

The light-up ride has equal-sized front and rear tyres unlike in the movie, and gets its power from a direct drive electric motor that uses lithium batteries. It has a computer-controlled electronic transmission and hydraulic brakes. With a seriously low seat height of just 28.5 inches though, its suspension better be good enough to win an Oscar if it’s going to tackle Dubai’s speed bumps.

Its current owner, Ebrahim Ostovar, said people “literally stop in their tracks when they see the iconic motorcycle from fantasy as a tangible reality. I am very excited to find the replica a new home and hope to see it going down Sheikh Zayed Road one day.”

How Ostovar, who hasn't had the bike for more than 12 months, came to own the motorcycle is unclear. A similar custom model sold at auction in the US in May last year for $77,000 – about AED 285,000.

The Sotheby’s description at the time said: “It is unlikely that a similar motorcycle will ever be produced or made available for purchase, making this a truly unique opportunity.” They were wrong.
