The stunning work of a secretive street artist

Here at EDGAR we have long been fans of graffiti as an art form. Whether it's the mysterious work of 1010, the unmistakable style of Ben Eine or, of course, the legendary work of Banksy, there are so many different types to love.
Another master of graffiti we are particularly taken with is the secretive Chinese street artist known only as DALeast. Specialising in creating huge nature-inspired paintings - sometimes hundreds of feet across - on walls and buildings, DALeast's distinctive style means that his works have a 3D effect and look as though they're made out of thousands of shards of metal, when in fact they're simply spray-painted on to a flat surface.
Although nowadays his pieces are quite rightly considered as works of art, that wasn't always the case, as the now-31-year-old artist and his crew were once arrested and spent a day in custody in Beijing prior to the 2008 Olympic Games under suspicion of being terrorists.
Born in China, DALeast now lives in Cape Town, South Africa, but spends half his time travelling the world showcasing his work, with Vienna, New York, Paris and London just some of the cities where his paintings have been spotted.
