Art Dubai returns for its 10th edition

Artists from all corners of the planet congregate for the tenth edition of Art Dubai.

March 14, 2016

Maybe just for one weekend avoid the mall and cancel your brunch plans.

Instead take a wander round the beguiling work on display at Art Dubai, which chalks up its tenth edition in 2016.

The festival at Madinat Jumeirah is divided into three sections: Modern show works from artists from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The Contemporary zone this year is guest curated by Kate Fowle from the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow. Finally, Marker will display art from Filipino artists.

In all, 500 artists covering 70 nationalities across 94 galleries from 40 countries will vie for your attention – much more multicultural than a brunch, wouldn’t you say?

Elyx Bar

However, that being said, Art Dubai isn’t lacking for a happening bar venue of its own. In fact, Elyx Bar is probably one of the coolest annual pop-up spots in Dubai.

Located on Fort Island in Madinat Jumeirah, the lively space will combine elements of ‘raw and luxe, old and chic, and modern and vintage’ – so good luck guessing the dress code.

Absolut mixologists will reign over the bar with cocktails made especially for Art Dubai, while top DJs will set the mood.

Be sure to take note of your surroundings when you’re in there; bespoke furniture including peacock chairs, festoon lighting and copper detailing, set against a tropicana-chic style – yes, it sounds pretty unusual, but that’s the appeal, right?

Art Dubai, Madinat Jumeirah, March 16-19. Elyx bar will open every day from 9:30pm-2am.
