Emirati photographers display stunning masterpieces

Local photography is alive and well at this weekend's Dubai Photo Exhibition.

The UAE and its stunning landscape regularly plays host to international photographers and exhibits – remember when Star Wars characters descended on Dubai, and when Steve McCurry snapped seven princesses across the country.

But there are some very talented local photographers too, who without question know this land and culture better than most, and excel at capturing it in the lens.

The Dubai Photo Exhibition, curated by Jassim Al Awadhi and on show now until March 19, is a perfect example of such talent. Among the 700 photographs to be exhibited at the Dubai Design District (d3) event, the works of eight Emirati photographers will be shown.

Among them is Jassim Al Awadhi, one of the first Emirati photographers who learnt his trade as a crime scene photographer. “The curation for the UAE exhibit has come together seamlessly, with artworks by some of the most prominent local photographers working today,” he said.

“I think local and international visitors alike will be surprised and inspired by what they find in Jassim’s curation, and I hope it serves as a stimulus for our dynamic regional photography scene.”

Here are some of the works by the UAE nationals on display this weekend. As Al Awadhi said, the regional photography scene is nothing if not dynamic.
