Boyhood - "the film of the decade"

July 15, 2014

The film that's amazed and enthralled critics around the world, leaving them wide-eyed, open-mouthed and gushing about its pure brilliance, is finally on its way to UAE audiences. Boyhood is the fictional story of a young boy named Mason (played by Ellar Coltrane), who goes through all the usual trials and tribulations that any child faces growing up. But where this film differs from your bog-standard drama is the fact that it was shot over an incredible 12 (yes, TWELVE) years, meaning as Coltrane grew up, so did Mason. Also starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents, Boyhood - which was released in the US last week - has been met with universal acclaim by critics and punters alike, who have gone crazy for its astounding realism. The director behind the epic production is American Richard Linklater, who's now being lauded as a genius after producing such an original piece of work, which also stars his daughter, Lorelei Linklater. Details: In UAE cinemas August 7.
