California Comes To Dubai

April 1, 2014

Grab your surfboard, throw on your check Hollister shirt and brush those blonde bangs away from your face – California is coming to the Middle East. OCVA – The Orange County Visitors Association of California – is opening its first promotional office in the region in Dubai this month, its third location outside of the U.S. What does that mean? Well essentially it is a shrewd marketing move by those tanned, perfect white teeth specimens on America’s western seaboard to draw visitors from this part of the world. But it makes a lot of sense. According to Ed Fuller, president and CEO of OCVA, nearly one million Middle Eastern travellers visited the United States last year, and the OC is a popular choice. “California is home to the largest Middle Eastern immigrant population in the U.S. We are determined to ensure that Middle Easterners, especially those from the GCC, who are planning a visit to the U.S. and California in the near future, know about Orange County,” Fuller said. So expect to see more homegrown Californian brands popping up in Dubai from now on. Judging by the ones already here – California Pizza Kitchen, Caramel and The Counter – we should all be pretty excited.
