Did Hamilton & Rosberg bury the hatchet for IWC?October 7, 2014
Their rivalry on the track this season has dominated headlines as the two Mercedes AMG teammates have consistently battled for first and second place thanks to their superior cars. After a deteriorating relationship between the two friends however - which culminated in Rosberg clipping Hamilton's rear wheel in Belgium, causing a puncture and eventually the British driver's retirement from the race - the swords appeared to have been withdrawn in Singapore a fortnight ago. What had brought about the sudden reconciliation? It could have been Hamilton's win in Italy after Rosberg's double mistake let his teammate through to win the race. However, maybe it wasn't a coincidence that in Singapore the two had to attend a sponsor event for one of their main partners. Keep that in mind as we introduce two new watches from IWC Schaffhausen - sponsor of Mercedes' F1 outfit: the technical Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Lewis Hamilton” and the more sporty Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Nico Rosberg”. Both were unveiled on the weekend of the Singapore GP, as IWC announced the renewal of its partnership with Mercedes AMG. The Lewis Hamilton chronograph uses a titanium case with a satin finish and is the only watch in the entire IWC collection with a titanium bracelet. The Rosberg edition makes use of a silver-plated dial and titanium case, while streaks of yellow give life to the driver's personality. Each caseback also bears the personal logo of Rosberg or Hamilton. Call us conspiracy theorists but there's nothing quite like a partner event in a sport which so heavily depends on sponsorship, to force two drivers to bury the hatchet and put on brave faces. Either that or they are both exceedingly happy with their new shiny watches.
