Hercules - the role Dwayne Johnson was made for

July 6, 2014
If there's a male name that's really died out over the years, it's Hercules. You just don't meet anyone by that monicker anymore. Shame. However, after this blockbuster has taken to our screens in August chances are you're going to hear of at least one person who thinks they're man enough to label themselves it. (Our advice now: rid yourself of that person.) Starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Hercules is the latest take on the classic story of the Greek demigod who endures his twelve labours after losing his family, before embarking on a life of bloody revenge. Used as a sword-to-hire - which you probably would if you were him - Hercules lends his services to the King of Thrace who tasks him with assembling the greatest army of all time, in a bid to defeat a tyrannical warlord. Granted, it's probably not going to win any Academy Awards, but for those who love an epic Greek mythological war story, this could be the greatest film ever. Alongside the former wrestling entertainer is actually a half decent cast, with John Hurt, Ian McShane and Rufus Sewell providing support roles. It also happens to feature none other than Irina Shayk, Cristiano Ronaldo's rather attractive girlfriend. So if Greek-God fables aren't your thing, you still have a reason to go see it. Details: in UAE cinemas 21 August.
