How to... date the hottest girl in the office

September 14, 2014
Unless you're a computer programmer or work on an oil rig, it's likely that there'll be at least one woman in your office who you'd be interested in seeing socially. Usually it's no big deal - simply ask her out for a drink after work, and the likelihood is, she'll say yes. Sorted. However, some workplaces contain a special breed of woman - a woman so much more attractive than anyone else in the office that merely to be graced with her presence every day feels like a treat in itself. And if you're so lucky as to have her even acknowledge your existence, well, you feel like you've hit the jackpot. But here at EDGAR, we're not of the opinion that simply talking to the hottest girl in the office is a jackpot at all. In fact, it's the very least you should be doing. What would you say if we told you that you could be dating this beautiful creature? No, we're not joking. Simply follow these eight steps and suddenly gong out with the unattainably hot colleague will become a much more realistic proposition: Christina-Hendricks

1. Find common ground

First and foremost, we need to ditch this assumption that just because she's the most beautiful woman you've seen outside of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, she won't be interested in talking to you. In fact, that probably couldn't be further from the truth. Anybody that attractive is probably so sick of intimidating the genuine blokes and attracting the knuckle-dragging gym bunnies that all she craves is some decent conversation. Find out what her likes and dislikes are and take it from there.

2. Let her know you're available

OK, so you've been chatting to her for a little while now informally and you feel like you've got a decent rapport. What's key here is to absolutely NOT fall into The Friend Zone. In order to make sure this doesn't happen, you need to find a way of communicating that you're free, single and looking, without being so blatant as saying so while nudging her with your elbow and winking... A bit of tact here goes a long way.

3. Man up

Once the lines of communication are open and she's aware that you're available, it's time to make sure you're an attractive proposition. Step one to doing this is to man the hell up. theoffice Do you really think a guy getting bossed around like the office skivvy is attractive to a woman of her calibre? Of course it's not. If you want to stand any chance of becoming her man, you need to grow a backbone and stand up for yourself.

4. Stop swearing like a trooper

Although appearing weak in front of the object of your desire is a no-no, portraying yourself as a foul-mouthed lout is almost certainly fatal to your chances too. A high-class lady such as this will not be impressed if she hears a deluge of filth pouring from your mouth, so when you are standing up for yourself in the office, make sure it's in a gentlemanly manner.

5. Get your aftershave right

If you're keen to impress, it's so easy to overdo it on the aftershave, but do this at your peril. A man wearing too much cologne is far worse than a man wearing none at all. Also, make sure you're wearing the right scent, and spraying on the correct spots. If you're not sure, check out our Essential Advice on Fragrances. Amy Adams

6. Look sharp - always

This one should go without saying, but in order to attract someone who is obviously far hotter than you, you need to give yourself a chance by at least looking as good as you can. And don't be tempted to let it slip when it's dress-down day in the office; on the contrary, that's your cue to take it up a notch. When everyone else rolls into work in scruffy jeans and band T-shirts, you'll look even better in your bespoke suit.

7. Wait for the opportune moment

The best time to ask this girl out is almost certainly not during office hours. We know it's a cliché, but you really should wait for the office Christmas party (or team-building night out if Christmas is too far away). If you've followed the previous six steps correctly then the only stumbling block now will be convincing her that she can mix business with pleasure. The way to do this is to find somewhere a bit more private than the middle of the dance floor (because trying something there will mean you've definitely wasted all your hard work) and make your move. Good luck.
