The must-have day boat in the Gulf this year
August 24, 2014
It might be the quiet time of the year in the Gulf, but at EDGAR
we like to think that we use this time wisely by restocking our wishlist of all the things that will ultimately make our lives better once the weather cools down again.
Sitting atop that very list at the moment is the beautiful Alen 42. While some people, with substantially deeper pockets, might consider this 12-metre vessel as a mere tender to transport them to and from their bigger floating palaces, we prefer to see this powerful little gem as the ideal day boat.
The two 440 horsepower Yanmar engines will have you hurtling across the Gulf at a max speed of little over 30 knots, while there is plenty of room on deck to bring a small group friends along for the ride. But speed is not all it has to offer.
The design of the boat is effortlessly stylish and with the natural teak flooring, position of the cockpit and the solarium at the back is big enough for three people to while away the day and the dining table is custom-made for a nautical picnic – especially if you remember to stock the below deck fridge before you cast off.
We’ll conceed that the Alen 42 might not exactly be the best vessel for trans-Atlantic crossings, but we wouldn’t hesitate about taking her for a little spin once the summer is over.
