The tea-time spa treatment

The Spa

Despite being one of Dubai’s most impressive buildings The Address Downtown is often overshadowed by its huge, hulking neighbours – the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. However, rather than wilting away, the hotel actually uses its location to its advantage – opting for style over size. The best example of this can be found in The Spa. Understated and modern, the spa avoids falling into the catch-all trap of offering multiple hammams, swimming pools and unnecessary lounge areas. Its 10 treatment rooms (three for men) are spacious and intelligently decorated, while – behind the curtains – they make full use of the building’s unique views over the Dubai Fountains and Burj Khalifa.

The treatment

Whether you are British, Indian, Chinese or from the Middle East, tea has played a vital part in your culture. Empires have been built on trading it, communities socialise around it and decisions of the highest order have been reached over cups of it. There are so many varieties of tea that The Spa has created a luxurious treatment based on the healing powers of the leaf. We went along – at 4pm, naturally – to sample The Spa’s 120-minute Tea Time treatment. The Spa, The Address Downtown Dubai. This treatment is the real deal. Consisting of a body scrub, a Thai-style massage and a facial, it is more of an all-in-one tune-up for your body. Before starting you can choose your own music for your treatment – in true British Tea-Time fashion we opted for classical. The exfoliating body scrub uses a combination of four types of tea, each coarsely rubbed into your skin to remove any dead skin. Each tea has its own characteristics: black (stimulating), white (regenerating), green (antioxidant) and red (soothing). The deep muscle stretch massage starts following a quick shower. Our therapist, Sunan, relentlessly digging in his elbows to try and unknot the pent-up tension held in our shoulders and back. Following what feels like 10-rounds with a Mike Tyson, the pace drops to a relaxing facial massage using green tea balms with anti-ageing properties that soothes the skin as if you were sitting down with a nice cuppa. Details: Tea Time, AED 1,150 for 120 minutes. Visit
