Top 20 most expensive domain names on the internet
September 1, 2014
Here at EDGAR
we've covered many auctions in the past, mostly of classic cars and antique watches. But this Autumn, there will be an auction for something utterly different from the norm, and yet possibly more expensive than anything gone before it.
Holiday.com is more than just another URL. It is one of the rarest premium domain names on the internet and the holy grail for the travel industry. On November 5th at the World Travel Market in London, concierge company Breathe Luxury will put it to auction.
Why does it matter? Because there is every chance it could become the most expensive domain name ever. Over 90 per cent of online travel businesses use the word 'holiday' as one of their top five keywords, while similar URLs Hotels.com sold for $11,000,000 in 2001 and Vacationrentals.com sold for a staggering $35,000,000 in 2007.
Which got us thinking: what are the most expensive domain names ever? Well, Breathe Luxury has already put that list together, and here it is. (Click the image to enlarge.)
