Versace Vs Salvatore Ferragamo

September 21, 2014

Living in the Middle East, we've always struggled slightly with the notion of an autumn/winter fashion collection, due to the fact that it rarely gets below 20 degrees, and a thick woolen scarf just isn't needed for a standard day on the beach. However, the European-based fashion houses dictate what's on trend, which means we must follow their seasonal styles. So if you're planning on travelling to cooler climes this autumn/winter, or even if you just want to be prepared for the couple of slightly chilly days we'll probably get around December/January time, it's important to look the part. With all the major brands releasing their autumn/winter collections, we look at the offerings from two of the big boys of fashion: Versace and Salvatore Ferragamo:

The new collection from Versace kicks to the curb the old cowboy trend and instead takes cues from the biker, with leather featuring heavily. Strong-shouldered suit jackets and coats are worn with print shirts and bootcut jeans, and accessories such as fingerless gloves, keychains, badges and bracelets are prominent. Every boot in the collection comes with a Cuban heel, and some have harnesses attached for that added bit of biker cool. Versace Details: visit

Salvatore Ferragamo

The autumn/winter collection from fellow Italian fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo takes a somewhat different path to Versace. Focusing on simple clean lines and organic colours, the collection looks sleek and elegant without becoming too feminine. Beige, cream, sesame and caramel make up the majority of the items, with injections of different shades of blue and rust providing some contrast. Accessories such as boots and monkstraps with thick soles, and oversized polo bags with visible grain or in rug weaves add even more texture to the collection. Salvatore Details: visit
