5 outrageous Donald Trump policies

The Republican candidate’s latest proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the US is his most ridiculous yet.

December 8, 2015

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has called for a “total and complete” shutdown of America’s borders to Muslims, following last week’s deadly California shootings.

In his most outrageous statement yet, the billionaire property tycoon claimed that until US authorities “can figure out” Muslim attitudes in the US, it is necessary to prevent any Muslims from entering the country.

“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,” he said.

The comments came in a campaign statement and were then repeated at a rally in South Carolina hours later, receiving loud cheers from his followers.

The extreme pledge has drawn immediate and widespread criticism from both the White House and Trump’s fellow Republicans. In an official statement, the White House called Trump’s comments “contrary to US values and its national security interests,” while Democrat Hilary Clinton described Trump’s views as “reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive," and Trump’s fellow Republican Jeb Bush called him “unhinged”.

In an attempt to justify the comments, Trump cited what he claimed to be polling data that underlined what he said was the violent hatred of followers of the faith toward Americans.

However, under closer inspection it was revealed that the so-called data was from the 'Center for Security Policy', an organisation branded "extremist" by anti-race-hatred campaigners at the Southern Poverty Law Center.

This, of course, is not the first time Trump has hit the headlines for his contentious views. Back in August he publicly slammed America’s relationship with Saudi Arabia, claiming that the Kingdom is “in big trouble”, and his offensive and often anti-Islamic policies have been widely condemned.

5 outrageous Donald Trump policies

  • There should be a database of all US Muslims: Trump believes that all American Muslims should be tracked by law enforcement, and claimed that he would “certainly implement” the US Muslim database should he be elected as president.
  • There should be surveillance on all US mosques: Describing the idea as a “counterterrorism initiative,” Trump says he doesn’t care if watching mosques is seen as “politically incorrect”.

  • The US should bring back waterboarding: The candidate claims that waterboarding and other methods of “strong interrogation” should be used in the fight against Islamic State. He calls the torture tactics “peanuts” compared to those used by militants.

  • The US should build a wall on the Mexican border: Claiming that Mexicans “are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and they’re rapists,” Trump says that a “great, great wall” is the best solution to stop illegal immigrants from Mexico.

  • The Black Lives Matter movement is “trouble”: In response to increasing pressure from the Black Lives Matter movement in the US following several cases of police brutality on black people, Trump said of the group: “I think they’re looking for trouble”.
