Watching the above video of Rory McIlroy hitting golf balls into strategically placed washing machines 300-yards away, it's easy to be taken by the humour and clever marketing of the clip and not fully appreciate that you're watching one of the world's most talented sportsman demonstrate his incredible ability, albeit in a unique and unusual way.

So it's a good thing that Dubai residents will get to watch the 25-year old genius up close in person this weekend.

McIlroy leads the best golfers on the European Tour to the season ending DP World Championships teeing off at the Jumeirah Golf Estates on November 20, even if he has already secured the Race to Dubai title.

Despite that, the field in Dubai still looks set to be one of the strongest ones yet, with the like of Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Justin Rose and last year’s winner Henrik Stenson vying for their share of the AED 18 million total prize money.

With free entry and additional events for spectators including golfing clinics, prize draws, and a first hand view following the world’s best golfers for four days around the Earth course – it's undoubtedly one of Dubai's must-attend sport events. Just don't expect any washing machines.
