Negotiate the minefield of sunglasses etiquette

In the Gulf, sunglasses are somewhat of a prerequisite. Here are some quick rules to keep your etiquette in check.

1. Never wear sunglasses inside. Regardless of what you think, it does not make you look cool – in fact it does the exact opposite. If you’re the kind of guy that needs to be told that, then you’ll probably need reminding that wearing them at night is also a serious no-no.

2. When not in use a man should place his sunglasses either in a pocket; in the buttons of his shirt; into his shirt pocket or on the table in front of him. At no point should he perch them on top of his head, and certainly never – we cannot stress this enough – wear them on a cord around his neck.

3. Working out the shape of what glasses to buy can be a sartorial nightmare. Obviously every person is unique, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind: Pick out your sunglasses in relation to the shape of your face.

If you have an oval face, go for square glasses; if you have a square face, opt for oval ones. Also, try and make sure the size of your frames are proportional to your face. This is imperative, or you’ll run the risk of either looking like your a comical villain or like you’re trying to avoid the paparazzi.
