Here at EDGAR, we're big believers that real men go to spas. In our view, there's absolutely nothing wrong with booking into a nice gents' salon and showing yourself a bit of care and attention.

Here are five places that even the most stubborn anti-spa man should give a try:

Designed for the man-on-the-go, 1847 was the first dedicated men-only executive grooming salon to open in the UAE. Now with five locations (Emirates Towers Boulevard, Grosvenor House, JBR The Walk, Mirdif City Centre and CityWalk), there are loads of options for men to unwind in one of their luxurious venues across the city.

One to try: Four hands massage - 1847's latest signature treatment, the four hands massage is performed by two therapists working in unison using a combination of massage techniques. AED 580 (60 minutes), AED 850 (90 minutes).

Heavenly Spa, Westin Dubai
Get over the girly name and you'll soon realise that the Heavenly Spa at the Westin has actually got plenty to satisfy the modern man's needs. With 11 treatment rooms, a fully equipped gym and a separate steam, sauna and jacuzzi area only for blokes, it's far from a womanly spa experience.

One to try: Elemis Skin IQ+ Facial - Hardcore skin treatment designed especially for men, to fight against the ageing effects of a hectic lifestyle. AED 580.

Nysa Spa, Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights
Recently opened property the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights is home to the brand new (so brand new there aren't even any photos of it yet...) Nysa Spa. The spa features a special men's menu using Gentleman's Tonic products for that manly yet luxurious touch.

One to try: CACI Face Enhancement: Ultra Rejuvenation - for those short on time, this 25-minute treatment gives your skin a quick boost with ultrasonic vibrations and LED photo stimulation. Futuristic! AED 225.

Talise Spa, Burj al Arab
You can't get much more luxurious than the Talise Spa at the Burj al Arab, and as lovers of the finer things in life, we can tell you that this place is certainly one of them. The manly aspect of the spa comes in the form of sauna and steam lounges exclusively for gentlemen, with panoramic views out over the World Islands and Downtown Dubai, made even better by the rare fog-proof glass used in the windows.

One to try: La Prairie caviar body treatment - Low-intesity all-over body treatment including foot rub, body exfoliation and massage. AED 1,195.
