Gents, here’s how to take care of your hair

Because, according to a hairdresser in Dubai, some men are bigger divas than women.

Jean-Marc Brun is a hairdresser with more than 30 years’ experience in Paris and Beverly Hills. He works at the prestigious Christophe Robin salon at the luxury Paris hotel Le Meurice.

EDGAR spoke to him during a visit to Jose Eber La Loge, a luxury beauty salon at The Address Montgomerie Dubai.

In the last five years men have got more adventurous with their hair

The hipster trend has come in and now men are having longer hair and beards. It’s harder to cut men’s hair today – some male customers are worse divas than women.

The old fashioned barber shop is back

Men don’t want to go to salons, they want tradition. But they still want to take care of themselves.

Clippers are good for neat and tidy hair, but they are fairly limited about what they can do

Cutting the back and sides of the hair with scissors is better because it provides more texture and your hair looks more chic.

It depends on your hairstyle, but you should get a haircut every two to three weeks

However, you can tidy up your neck hair yourself every few days with a razor. That fuzzy neck hair looks terrible.

The biggest problem men have with their hair is communication with their barber

You must talk to your barber, otherwise they don’t know what you want and you’ll have the same haircut all your life – it’s boring. It’s good to change your haircut and your look. But don’t go too crazy.

Men are colouring their hair more and more these days

But the word ‘colour’ scares a lot of men. In the Paris salon we call it camouflage instead. Just a subtle change of tone is good for guys, you don’t want anything too flashy.

Most guys wash their hair every day, which is fine, but not ideal as it can damage the hair

I wash my hair every day – I can’t stand it if I don’t. It’s important to use a clarifying shampoo once a week to give your hair a deep clean and get rid of all the product you use and help the scalp to breathe. If not, your hair will look dull and have no shine.
