Last year, Pharrell picked up the Fashion Icon award at the Council of Fashion Designers of American (CFDA) fashion Awards.

We weren’t surprised, we wondered what took so damn long. Apart from being a singer, rapper and producer, Pharrell has:

  • Collaborated with Adidas and Timberland
  • Founded clothing brands like Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear
  • Partnered with Bionic Yarn, a company that manufactures eco-friendly clothing made out of plastic
  • Worked on a campaign for Chanel

To celebrate his 43rd birthday, which is today, we thought we’d let you in on Pharrell’s style secrets because, trust us, there’s no one better to learn from.

Show some ankle

Roll up those jeans, chinos and trousers. Don't have the confidence to do it? Read this

Go for patterns

Camouflage, florals, graphic and leopard print… Don’t hold back. Just don’t give people a headache by overdoing it.

Be bright and bold

That’s the only way people are going to notice you. It’s like Chris Rock said at the Oscars, “Men are wearing the same outfits. If George Clooney showed up with a lime green tux on, and a swan coming out of his ass, somebody would go, ‘What you wearing George?’”

Not to say you need a swan coming out of anywhere.

Don’t be afraid to go tieless

Forget everything you know about looking smart. Sometimes, you look better without a tie.

Up your sneaker game. Haven’t you heard? Women judge a man by his shoes.
