Here’s a look at TAG Heuer’s latest smartwatch
Unveiled at Nikki Beach on March 18, here's what you need to know about the TAG Connected Modular 45.March 19, 2017
TAG Heuer’s first foray into the smartwatch world produced the TAG Heuer Connected. At about $1,500 per unit, the Connected was probably the most expensive smartwatch in the world when it released last year.
The smartwatch went on to exceed TAG’s expectations by selling more than 56,000 units. Agreed, that’s not the lofty figure we’re used to when it comes to sales, but for a luxury unit to bring in about $80 million in revenue in this economy is not too shabby.
It’s no surprise then, that TAG unveiled a new iteration of its smartwatch: the Connected Modular 45. Just like it did with the first one, TAG teamed up with Intel to create the latest fusion of Swiss craftsmanship and Silicon Valley tech.
TAG’s latest offering features 11 standard models in satin or polished grade 5 titanium. The Connected Modular 45 sports a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with sapphire cover glass and a titanium case. The watch, which runs Google’s Android Wear 2.0 operating system, is also water resistant up to 50 metres.
The Swiss beauty is powered by Intel's Atom Z34XX processor and offers 4 GB of memory along with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Google Voice control, GPS, and Near Field Communications (NFC) tech. meanwhile, the battery is said to last for over a day.
The watch’s biggest feature though, is in its name. The device will have customisation options aplenty, including the choice to swap out the smart module for a more traditional mechanical watch. It also allows small parts like lugs and bezels to be interchanged for personal preference.
TAG Heuer’s Connected Modular 45 starts at $1,650.
