Style moves to steal from Andrew Garfield

Award season is here and the most prestigious among the plethora of awards a star can get – the Oscars, for the uninitiated – is on the 26th of this month.

We're guessing you’ve already gone through the list of nominations and have even picked out your favourite to win. We’re not falling into that rabbit hole. Instead, we’re going a different route and looking at what you can learn from some of the leading men nominated for the award ceremony.

Since we’ve already covered Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake – and have Denzel Washington on this month's cover – we thought we’d put the spotlight on Andrew Garfield, nominated for the Actor In A Leading Role category for Hacksaw Ridge.

Here’s what you can learn from the 33-year-old actor who recently revealed why Ryan Reynolds kissed him at the Golden Globes

Go bold or go home

Garfield’s sartorial choices saw a marked improvement after he started doing his press runs for the Amazing Spiderman flicks. The man has shown a penchant for pulling off printed suits. If you’re going to try this, you need to offset the prints with simple touches. A white shirt and oxfords should do the trick.

Stand out from the crowd

We get it, sometimes patterns may make you feel a little feminine. So why don’t you start off easy? Instead of sticking with the regular black, grey and navy suits, try a different colour.

Thin but not ripped

Look at all the suits this man dons. Notice how they’re all trimmed to perfection? That’s the beauty of a well-tailored suit. This works best for guys who are thin but not necessarily in shape.

Jack(et) of all trades

Don’t believe the hype around dogs, a sports jacket is a man’s best friend. It’s versatile and can be worn in many different ways. You don’t even have to necessarily pair it with anything. Just throw it on and you’re golden.

When it doubt, match

Thinking of throwing on a sweatshirt or bomber jacket? Andrew Garfield’s rule of thumb seems to be matching your shoes to your jacket. Matching it as close as he can, anyway.
