Etihad's The Residence is an apartment in the sky

Etihad Airways has introduced a new level in luxury travel with The Residence, at $20,000 a ticket.

Over the last few weeks, we've written several stories on new waves of luxury travel underpinning our motto that how you get somewhere is every bit as important as where you're going.

First, there was Qatar Airways' all-business class flight. Then there was the Four Seasons' private jet, whisking you around the world in utter luxury. Now, Etihad Airways has gone one step further with its own private apartment on board. That's right, your very own accommodation in the sky.

Known as The Residence, the Abu Dhabi-based airline will be introducing the gloriously over-the-top option to their first-class A380 flights to London Heathrow from December this year, with tickets costing a casual $20,000.

Accommodating single or double occupancy, The Residence features a living room, two separate double bedrooms with full-length beds – no reclining seats needed here – and even an ensuite shower room, to ensure you can arrive at your destination ready for the day ahead.

Naturally, guests will also have their own personal butler tending to their needs throughout the flight, who have all received specialist training at the Savoy Butler Academy in London.

If The Residence is anything to go by, it seems that when it comes to luxury travel the sky really is the limit.
