First there was an Armani, in the future there will be a Bulgari, but now finally there is a Versace. No, we’re not talking about new shop openings, we’re talking about designer hotels; this is Dubai after all.

It may be a few years behind schedule, but finally the Palazzo Versace Dubai has opened, located in the new Culture Village development by the Dubai Creek.

In the land of a thousand hotels, Versace needed to go big in the hope of making a dent in the emirate’s competitive five-star hotel market, and it has certainly done that – the opulent interiors has already seen it described as the “most luxurious hotel the Middle East has ever seen.”

So what’s inside?

It won’t come as a surprise to learn that Donatella Versace has designed all the interiors and furniture in the hotel, which features 215 opulent rooms and 169 residences – yes, you can live here.

Several designs have been custom made, with the trademark motifs of the Italian fashion house, such as the Medusa head and the Greek key, emblazoned across the prints. The ceilings have been hand-detailed in gold.

The grand lobby features a 1,000 square metre marble mosaic floor, bespoke furniture and textiles decorated with peacocks, falcons and horses.

Giardino, the all-day dining restaurant, has marble floors and columns, with Versace wallpaper everywhere you turn. The Vanitas restaurant is styled on a classic Italian palace, with handmade decorations featuring the Grottesche Italiane.

So it’s pretty outrageous, and as only the second Palazzo property in the world – the other is in Australia – it is a very exclusive hotel to stay at. The big question of course: will they do a brunch?

We’ll be back to report on what it’s actually like to spend a night there as soon as we receive the invite…
