Generally, Boeing 787 Dreamliners are commercial aircrafts that accommodate between 240 and 335 passengers. However, Kestrel Aviation Management envisioned a different path for the flight when it customised one particular 787 Dreamliner to accommodate a maximum of 40 passengers.
The market leader in the purchase, modification and sale of Head of State and corporate aircraft bought the aeroplane for $225 million and then proceeded to give it a luxurious facelift - worth upwards of $100m – fit for royalty. The interior took a year to engineer and a further year and a half to manufacture and install after the aircraft rolled off the Boeing production line.
The aircraft, dubbed “the flying penthouse”, features an entertainment and study lounge, dedicated dining spaces, a master bedroom with a 42-inch TV, a dressing room and an enormous hotel-style bathroom complete with a shower.
The jet, which has been in development since 2009, was unveiled at last year’s European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Geneva and is currently on display at the London airport as part of the launch of bespoke travel packages by Deer Jet.
The aircraft flies at Mach 0.85 and has a range of up to 17.5 hours or 9,800 miles, meaning it can reach pretty much any location in the world non-stop. Having said that, taking this baby for a spin will probably leave you and your successors broke for years unless of course, you fall within that wealthy one per cent bracket that can afford to throw away $72,500 – or approximately AED 300,000 – an hour on a joyride.
