Woman of the Week: Keira Knightley

As topless protests go, this one’s had quite the effect.

Keira Knightley has never found it difficult to make headlines, be it from her roles in mega blockbuster films to her views on feminism, so it's unsurprising that the news this week of her posing topless for a photo shoot has put her into the news agenda - but not for the reasons you might think.

The British actress - who stars in the upcoming The Imitation Game - only agreed to do the shoot for Interview magazine if her pictures were left untouched, saying she was motivated to do it as a protest against unrealistic expectations placed on women.

In the interview, she said: “I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters. That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.”

Not only do we agree with Knightley, but we think it's a noble enough move to make her our Woman of the Week. Keira, we applaud you. keira knightley. keira knightley. keira knightley. keira knightley. keira knightley. keira knightley.
