With the first full-length trailer for the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens finally being revealed, above, comment and analysis abounds on every last millisecond of footage offered.

However, while others question the possible motives of the evil Kylo Ren or speculate on the rather conspicuous absence of a certain Luke Skywalker, we prefer to focus on the woman set to be the film’s breakout star: Daisy Ridley.

Playing Jakku scavenger Rey, the 23-year-old beauty, who has only a handful of acting credits to her name to date, is set to be catapulted into stardom by what, by the looks of the new trailer, will be a starring role in the December blockbuster.

Described on the official Star Wars site as, “a resilient survivor, a scavenger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with the cutthroats of the harsh desert world of Jakku,” the trailer, which shows a masked Ray exploring a giant space ship and even mentions “The Force” at one point, seems to indicate that Rey may in fact have a much more important role to play than first thought.

It is an incredible turn up for the young British actress, who started her career just two years ago with a couple of short films and an appearance in long-running UK TV series Casualty. In 2014 she made a brief appearance in another hit UK series, Mr Selfridge, but amazingly Star Wars will be her first feature-length movie appearance.

Clearly director JJ Abrams has a lot of faith in Ridley – as with the film’s other young star, John Boyega, who has a similarly scant acting CV – and if her performance in The Force Awakens impresses, you can bet your bottom dollar that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her on the big screen in the future.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is out in UAE cinemas on December 15, 2015.
