The name Emily Ratajowski is hardly one that rolls off the tongue, but despite the tricky pronunciation, the American model and actress behind it has seen her fame explode over the past couple of years.

After bursting on to the scene with her eye-catching appearance in the video to Robin Thicke’s 2013 hit Blurred Lines (above), Ratajowski quickly gained notoriety in the modelling world, and in February 2014 she landed a coveted spot in the 50th anniversary special Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated.

While her modelling career was going from strength to strength, the ambitious Ratajowski had bigger plans, and she promptly landed herself a role in David Fincher’s 2014 film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel, Gone Girl.

Starring as the mistress of Ben Affleck’s character, the emerging actress put on a sultry performance that did her profile in the acting world absolutely no harm at all.

And sure enough, she has now been cast in her first leading role, opposite Zac Effron in the recently released drama on the massively popular EDM movement, We Are Your Friends (trailer below).

While the film’s meagre opening-weekend takings of just $1.8 million don’t quite stack up to the likes of mega-hit Jurassic World, the very fact that Ratajowski has managed to make the tricky transition from modelling to the big screen is commendable in itself.

And that's why the beautiful brunette is a worthy winner of this week's WOW title.
