Woman of the Week: Scarlett Johansson
Black Widow is back in the new Avengers film, but there’s more to Scarlett Johansson than playing a superhero.EDGAR staff April 19, 2015
For as long as the Woman of the Week slot has been running on EDGARdaily, we have been waiting for a chance to feature Scarlett Johansson. So we're grateful that Avengers: Age of Ultron is in the midst of its pre-release marketing drive, as it beckons the return of Johansson's character Black Widow and voila, our chance to feature her here.
The 30-year old actress stars in the latest blockbuster from the Marvel comic book series (watch the trailer above) and even filmed some of her stunts for the movie while pregnant with her now six-month old daughter.
Breaking onto the Hollywood scene in 1994, Johansson was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in Manny & Lo in 1996. But it was her role in Lost in Translation in 2003 that earned her a BAFTA for Best Actress.
Golden Globe nominations for her work in A Love Song for Bobby Long and Woody Allen's Match Point further enforced her position as one of Hollywood's most talented actresses, while other notable roles include The Island (2005), The Prestige (2006), The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008).
But there's more to Johansson than just acting. The American beauty is also a singer and has so far recorded and released two albums: Anywhere I Lay My Head and Break Up.
She's previously been named Playboy magazine's Sexiest Celebrity and is the only woman to twice be named Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire. But we're sure this recognition as our Woman of the Week trumps both those titles...
