Women of the Week: cosplay girls at Comic Con
The Middle East geek fest is upon us and with it comes three cosplay girls who have caught our eye.EDGAR staff April 5, 2015
Dubai is set to geek it out this weekend when Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) returns - April 9 to 11 - bringing with it more famous names than ever before.
But aside from William Shatner, Sam J. Jones, Karl Urban and Gillian Anderson, there will also be three international cosplay girls attending, which is just the right number to get our attention.
In case you're not familiar with cosplay (costume play) it's essentially fancy dress for grown ups who model themselves to look like famous action heroes from the world of comic and film. It's a big deal, with fan conventions and online communities dedicated to the hobby.
Three such examples are Alodia Gosiengfiao, LeeAnna Vamp and Madeleine ‘Zhiana’ Rose who will all be at MEFCC. We thought it might be best to give you a snapshot on each of them, should you happen to make their acquaintance...
Back for her third time in four years, Alodia Gosiengfiao is a household name in the world of cosplay and with nearly five million subscribers on Facebook, was recently named the most popular cosplayer in the world. A Filipina cosplayer, model and actress, Alodia is an ambassador for Animax-Asia and a co-host of a TV prank show, while her cosplay travels have taken around the world. For cosplay fans, she's a must-meet at MEFCC. LeeAnna Vamp
Known as the "ghoul of your dreams", we're not sure wether to be excited or a little bit scared about LeeAnna Vamp. A cosplay girl with a darker side, LeeAnna hosts a TV show and was in the 2013 film Resident Evil: Down with the Sickness. She claims to embody the character of a vampire and is rarely seen without her fangs. All that means her unique look and style will make her hard to miss in Dubai this weekend.
Madeleine ‘Zhiana’ Rose
Returning after a successful 2014 appearance, Madeleine ‘Zhiana’ Rose has reason to feel a closer emotional tie to the MEFCC than the others. Born in Australia, Madeline's family moved to Dubai before she could walk, making the Middle East her home. A cosplayer since 2010, she creates her own costumes of different popular culture characters, and has appeared at conventions on various global media. Last year she cosplayed as Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite, Sailor Mars (Sailor Moon) and Alice (Alice: Madness Returns). What will she cosplay as this year? There's only one way to find out... MEFCC takes place from April 9-11 at Dubai World Trade Centre. For more details visit mefcc.com
